We offer courses in mosaic for beginners, intermediate, advanced, and for people with disabilities. Our aim is to create a place where different generations, potentialities, competencies and artistic ambitions can all be expressed.

The school teaches painting, sculpture and "Decoration", and offers a 4-year course on mosaic (Mosaico e Pittura Murale), which is open to foreign students.

They offer two courses in mosaic, in Italian. The first is Mosaicista progettista (Mosaic Design), which usually runs from October to May (12 hours tuition). It is for students age 18 to (at most) 30; at present these include some from Greece, Germany, France and America. The course includes tracing and copying ancient mosaics, designing modern cartoons, mosaic techniques, computerised mosaic design, commercial mosaic, photography and business management. It also includes a period working in a local mosaic studio as a trainee. The second course is for Qualified Mosaicists, and covers the design and execution of modern wall and floor mosaics.

They run two-week courses in mosaic between June and September. Languages spoken are Italian, French and English. There are three alternatives; an Introductory Course for beginners, with the aim of making simple copies of ancient mosaics, using marble and pebbles. There is an Advanced Course, where students make either modern mosaics or copy ancient ones, using a variety of materials. Finally there is Mosaic:Decorative Art, where mosaics are executed in various decorative arts contexts. This course is supervised by a local Ravenna artist with the help of an assistant. Lido Adriano is on the coast about 12 kilometres from Ravenna.

Course Description:

Enzo Aiello runs mosaic art courses in his studio, very close to S.Giovanni Basilica. He has studied and worked at the Vatican Studio of Mosaic. Lessons are held in English and Italian. Participants don't need any materials or tools to participate in the course. Everything is provided: martellina (mosaic hammer), tagliolo, clay, lime, stones, tesserae, smalti, chisels, gauze, cement, etc. Students work in a nice environment. An attendance certificate is issued at the end of the course.

He teaches Roman and Byzantine mosaic and , only in the next year, micromosaic in the smalti filati technique.

Maestro Ignazio Cerruto (or Ezio as he like to be called) will provide an introduction into the techniques of mosaic art using both materials local to Ragusa as well as some of the more well known materials of Italy.
