MEDIEVAL ‘WESTMINSTER’ FLOOR TILES

One of the most prolific schools of medieval tilemakers was the group that produced the so-called Westminster floor tiles in the mid 13th century. Despite their existence being known for over 100 years, this is the first fully-comprehensive study of the tiles and their makers.

All known tile patterns are recorded, together with all known find locations, the various clay deposits used and details of the manufacture and laying arrangements.

Rarely has a more fascinating and detailed record of a particular group of tiles been made.
