Henry Chapman Mercer was a potter in the USA at the turn of the century specialising in unusual opus sectile and other tiles. One of his major works was a floor for the Pennsylvania Capitol Building which he completed in 1906. This featured historical panels of mosaic and this is a reprint of his own guide to the significance and meaning of the various designs.
