Overview

What is UrbanGlass? UrbanGlass is a not-for-profit international center for the creation and appreciation of new art, design, craft, and architecture made from glass. Founded in 1977 UrbanGlass was the first artist-access glass center in the world and is now the largest. Programs include: Classes, UrbanGlass Abroad, studio rental, The Bead Project, The Bead Expo, GLASS Quarterly, Exhibitions, Awards Dinner, Auction Weekend, Open House Sundays and the UrbanGlass Atelier.

Classes: UrbanGlass offers classes, workshops, weeklong intensives and private lessons to over 900 students each year. Our curriculum includes instruction in glassblowing and hot sculpting, hot casting, slumping and fusing, mosaics, stained glass, neon, lampworking and beadmaking, mold making, glass marbles and enameling. UrbanGlass also offers courses for credit through NYU, LIU and Keystone College.

UrbanGlass Abroad: UrbanGlass now offers classes in Italy and Sweden. These classes are an exciting supplement to our regular education program.

Artist-Access Studio: UrbanGlass' 17,000 square foot facility contains a complete glassworking studio including: three hot glass furnaces (that melt 2000 pounds of glass daily), seven glory holes, 13 annealers, a mold shop, cold shop, lampworking and neon shop, a flat glass area for slumping and fusing, mosaics and stained glass, and a sandblaster. All areas of the studio are available to artists for rental at a subsidized hourly rate.
