What Lies Beneath Our Feet: Hunting and Foraging for Mosaic in an Urban Landscape with Rachel Sager

Discover the magic of transforming raw material into tesserae, the building blocks of mosaic, with award-winning Pittsburgh mosaic artist, Rachel Sager. Literally tap into the secrets of Pennsylvania sandstone, limestone, slate, shale and even coal by learning the ancient and singular art of hammer and hardie cutting. This two day beginner workshop will include a field trip along the Allegheny River to source material, an introduction to cutting stone, working in high quality thin-set mortar and Rachel''s unique approach to contemporary mosaic philosophy. You will never look at the stone beneath your feet the same way again!

This introductory workshop is open to beginners and even better, it's the Kickoff Weekend for the Three Rivers Arts Festival. What a great time to make Pittsburgh City your destination!
