Show Me The Monet -

but don't show me mosaics

July 2012

BBC tv recently broadcast a very entertaining series of afternoon programmes - Show Me The Monet - in which artists both professional and amateur are invited to display their work to a panel of three judges, who decide if it is worthy of an exhibition in a London gallery - or not. Gripping stuff. Tears and smiles.

You could submit paintings, drawings, photographs, prints, textiles or sculptures - but no mosaics! The nearest we saw was a slab of cigarette stubs.

Why on earth did the programme makers (Lucky Day Productions) not allow mosaic, one of the greatest and most challenging of art forms?
